Terry Suominen

“You can’t handle the truth” that Jack Nicholson yelled out to Tom Cruise in the 1992 movie “A Few Good Men.”   Not many citizens of this country are willing to accept the truth when politics are discussed. Not because they don’t want to, it is because they just do not understand the importance of the political issues of the day.  Most individuals have a decent job and spend time with the family not knowing the full extent of the issues facing our America; they only hear thirty seconds of it on the radio or television.  As long as they can provide a good life for their family their heads are in the sand about the outlandish political corruption in Washington. Our cities all across this great Nation are at risk.

We have come to the point in history where we must make a choice.  We must decide do we live or do we die as a Nation?  Do we take back our Country and our Constitution or do we let the corruption in Washington cause our Great Nation to dwindle and cave into a new political climate where everything is lost?  I for one and many others that I have been in contact with over the past year will not be willing to give up our Country so easily.

Each year we elect officials to run our governments. Whether they are local, state or federal, they are elected.  By and large the vast majority of the people voting on Election Day do not have a clue as to who they were voted for. “The name sounded familiar so I voted for them.”  “I am a democrat so I voted for the democratic candidate.” Same goes for the Republican voter who votes party lines and doesn’t have a clue as to what the candidates’ platform.

Throughout the campaigns we were sent letters in the mail asking for your help to defeat the incumbent stating that they will lower taxes, reduce the size of government or anything else to get elected. Send money, we need money to win.

Then we see a few of the candidates making appearances at rallies with their stump speeches.  Livening up the crowd with blanket statements about who they are and what they represent. President Obama was a master at this type of organization. He drew hundreds of thousands of individuals out to hear him speak.

“When I get to Washington you will see change you can believe in” was his quote of choice. He promised the most transparent government anyone had ever witnessed.  He promised Americans all across this land that lobbyists would not be allowed in his administration.  He promised that CSpan would be in the rooms and those against his agenda would be exposed.  The Americans listened and liked the rhetoric.

We have seen hundreds if not thousands of ads on the television. We have had to listen to thousands of radio commercials for the candidates but we really do not know anything about them except for those thirty second ads informing us how great these candidates are.

How much money poured in depended on the office the particular candidate would be running for?

These candidates raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for an office job that pays only fifty thousand dollars a year at the local level.  The candidates that run for higher offices raise substantially more than one could imagine.

Harry Reid will raise close to twenty five million for his office job which pays one hundred seventy four thousand dollars a year for a freshmen Senators.  He has close to twelve million in his war chest at this time with 9 months to go before the general election.

Where does all the money come from? Why does it cost so much to run a campaign?  Why would anyone in their right mind put themselves through the attacks the opposition will fling out into the public arena to show they are the better candidate?  All the problems that are encountered with a campaign seem so extensive for such a meager salary.  If you compare the salary they will receive to the amount of donations they will take in to run a campaign you would have to ask yourself why anyone would want to run for office.

I will tell you why they run, that seat in Congress has become a position of power and perks once elected.  Not a position of priviledge as once intended by our Founding Fathers.

This brings up the question. Why do I want to run? I want to take back our country from the career politicians that have eroded the quality of life for me, your and our children.  We must stop the insanity right here in Nevada and across the Nation.    So come Election Day remember your vote counts, make it work for you with a vote for Terry Suominen, your voice in Washington.
